EMPLOYERS CAN ASSIST OP&F MEMBERS AT RETIREMENT

Pre-Retirement webinar now on OP&F website

When an OP&F member is preparing for retirement, please encourage them to visit our website and contact OP&F with any questions on retirement or health care options available. The annual OP&F summer Pre-retirement seminars have just concluded and were well-attended. A video of the Pre-Retirement webinar is now on our website. Members can click on the Active member tab and look for the Plan for your Retirement link or click here.

Members are advised to submit retirement applications at least 90 days prior to their expected retirement date. To schedule an appointment with a benefit counselor, members should call OP&F Customer Service at 1-888-864-8363 and speak with an OP&F Customer Service Representative at least six months in advance of their retirement date. This will give ample time for members to receive and complete any paperwork or forms, and prepare to meet any deadlines for signing up for health care in retirement, either through Alight Retiree Health Solutions, or possibly using COBRA to avoid having a gap in coverage.

Employers may be asked by OP&F members to provide a letter as proof that their health care coverage is ending. This letter will be needed to enroll in health care coverage as a qualifying life event (QLE) and become eligible for the health care stipend from OP&F. The letter will provide a proof of loss, as described in the Health Care Stipend Eligibility Form available on the OP&F website Forms page. The member will return the proof of health care loss letter to OP&F with the Health Care Stipend Eligibility Form that can be found here. It is also important to remember that if this form is not received within 60 days of the QLE the request for health care eligibility will be denied.
